Consider what would happen if all the electronically and gas powered gadgets in the area suddently stopped working - computers, the internet, phones, cars, radios, and even battery powered flashlights would not work. Besides talking face to face, you'd have no way of communicating with anyone. What would you think? What would you do? What would happen when darkness fell? How do you think others would react? Why?
Collect your thoughts and respond to the above in a paragraph of 5-7 sentences.

I think that at first I would be ok for awhile. Just talking to people who live near me and at school. But after awhile I would get frustrated that I couldnt talk to any of my friends who live in the country. But other people I think would go crazing right away. Not having anything to occupiy their time besides actully interacting with people because a lot of people are always watching tv, going on the computer, or texting their friends. It could be really scary when it comes to night because yes candles will have light. But how long will they last? How can we make more? Plus people can get even more freaked out because all of the shadows it would be like living in a horror film
ReplyDeleteWithout electricity the world would not complete, jobs would be eliminated and people would need to live on farming and stuff again. I would not be able to adapt right away but I'm sure after a while it would be alright. Other people would probably freak out because everyone depends on electricity and communicating with people through phones and computers because it's easier. At night it would be scary because some people are afraid of the dark and they run into things even at home. It would be a world wide crisis.
ReplyDeleteI think alot of people would freak out and probably go crazy. Since alot of people talk to friends out of state or out of the country on Skype or Facebook alot of people would probably be pretty depressed and sad. I think our parents would be pretty happy about it becasue they are always like "cant you just talk to them?" and its like no ill text them. I dont think that it would suck at night more than during the day because you could just use candles. It would also be really hard for people who dont work close to thier home. Now alot of people use thier cell phones for work so that would make it pretty hard for them. After a few days people might start robbing people if they need something which could cause alot of problems.
ReplyDeleteI think this would be a disaster. People's jobs and even the whole town would suffer from this change. This wouldn't be a good change but it could be for the better. But then again you think about it and our economy could even go farther down hill OR it could shoot up and everything could be alright. When darkness fell we would use candles around the rooms. I don't think others would react in a good way because a lot of adults and there jobs with traveling and technology would be a crisis. Also, School would have it's disadvantages too.
ReplyDeleteI think that all of that happening would be a big problem. A lot of people would probably freak out and not know what to do. Most of our population would probably go crazy. When the night came around, things would be really scary because we would have no lights except for the moon and possibly candles. But you would only have candles if you were smart enough to know how to make a fire. I don't think that any of us would be able to handle a change like that. Expecially not that fast. It would take a long time for us to adjust.
ReplyDeleteWell first off I would not be commenting on this because there would be no computers or electricity. I think that the world would come to a huge halt. Everything would slow down and some people would come insane not having their electricity. Mostly places like New York and Los Angeles would suffer since they run by electricity because without it the city is nothing. Smaller farm cities I think would be fine with it because they are used to it even though big farms would also suffer. I definatley would not want to live this way because it would be alot harder to live since everyone is so used to electricity today. I would probably go to bed earlier because it would be dark everywhere and there would be no tv to watch. No one could see anything.
ReplyDeleteI think that it would be better for everyone beacause I beilive everyone has gotten sucked into electronics and that has caused the United States to have a high rate of obesity. Everyone, including me, always needs to have somthing electronic on them at all times. But if this was to happen everyone will blame someone or somthing maybe even a contry. Just in my opinion I think it would be neat not to have technology even though there will most likely will be a riot throughout the world because so many people are relied on it. Mayb a short clip of somthing like this happening would b a zoom out of earth and then it exploding.
ReplyDeleteA lot of people would start to worry and freak out because there would be nothing to do and no way to communicate if they weren't right next to each other. Nobody would be able to do any work at their job since all jobs use electricity. People would have no way to store some of their food unless it was winter. You would not be able to cool or heat your house.
ReplyDeleteSchool would be very hard because we use the computers every day for homework.
If this series of events happened,I think some people wouldn't mind and others wouldn't be able to handle it. If this happened to me, I wouldn't be too worried. I am an outdoors kind of guy, so I wouldn't need all of the electroncis and extra stuff. Somethings would be much harder to handle. For instance, transport would be completely cut off and no resources would be moved around. I think once darkness fell, some people would freak out and have absolutely no idea what to do and how to build a fire or just get through the night. I think this would happen because most people have never learned to do anything with building fires or gathering food because it has always been handed to them and nothing was ever that hard to get. Even though I think I could handle this situation, I would be mad because I wouldn't be able to drive a car or go many places I wanted to.
ReplyDeleteI would probably not think anything of it, because it would not be too hard to talk to people, since we do it in class everyday. The only difficult task would be to get where you want to go quickly. When dark would come, I would probably try to find some matches and start a fire to keep some light and keep warm. Some people, who are reliant on technology, would probably have some troubles and become very dependent on the people who would live off the land. We could also have a problem economically, because without technology, we can not produce as many goods as usual.

ReplyDeleteI think that letters would still work. Letteres mean much more than a text or an email anyways. People should still send letters through the mail because theirs more meaning to it. I would do just that, I would write letters to my friends and family if I couldn't go by them a lot. When darkness came we would light candles just like in the olden days. It would be like we were amish. I think otheres would be a lot nicer and there would be less drama and bullying because nobody has the courage to go up to someones face and say what they really feel anymore thats where texting and facebook comes into the picture.
ReplyDeleteIf there was nothing to attain electricity and communication with anyones else besides actually doing things face-to-face or by "hand" society itself would be thrusted into a kind of panic mode. Some would practically go crazy and there will be many disastrous incidents such as suicides, burgluries in the beginning, killings because of conflicts between people and other possibilities. This crisis would also show people what really is important in life instead of substitutes like money and actual stuff. Food and shelter would be the major issues where people would be "put to the test" as some would say. I would probably be freaked but end up supported for others before myself. This would be a very difficult and scary experience that the whole world itself would be conflicted by. I think only half of society would actually be able to live through this.
ReplyDeleteI think this kind of life would be actually pretty fun. It would be just like the olden days and everyone would be way more social. I kind of wish this would happen for like a week. This happens sometimes when we lose power in our houses, except for our cell phones always work. WE could send letters to communicate when we aren't with that person and we could deliver them ourselves to their houses. I am getting sick of electronics and technology, how we have to use it for everything. there also would be less drama and people would be nicer.

I think that this would be a good thing to happen to some people including me. We would have to interact face-to-face instead of talking through phones. We would also get more exercise by having to walk, bike, or scooter to other people's houses. On the down side we wouldn't have any way to see at night or when it's dark out except candle light and that would get really annoying to me. It would also be really hard to keep in contact with people besides school or work. Traveling would also not be fun because it would take the longest time having to go by horse back. So, overall, I wouldn't like this no electricity thing very much.
ReplyDeleteIn some ways I think that this would be a good thing to happen. Our society had become so involved with electricity that most people don't even know how to function without it. I think that if this happened we might be better off, we would actually have to talk to people in person and it would help us get more exercise. Instead of getting rides everywhere we would have to bike or walk. For the first couple weeks I think everyone would go crazy, but after that I think we would all be able to work together and figure out how to function.
ReplyDeleteIn this case, I would eventually go nuts and become a mad man. I would kill everyone by riding around on my horse with a pistol. I would do this because if things like refrigerators didnt work, our food would spoil. So you would have to eventually eat the other people of your town. Anyone could kill you at any moment so you would have to watch your back. ~~~~~~ This reminds me of that one movie where there is a plane crash and the people have to survive by eating eachother.---Austin Ernst
ReplyDeleteIf there was no electricity, i think it would be hard because of how many big companys take alot of electricity and we would have to start over with new ideas. I think for health reasons, we would be more halthy and fit which is what we need right now, but we would be so much more down in the economy. For people that have jobs an hour away or two hours, it would cause them to find new jobs. I don't think it would go over too well. There would be alot of chaos and things would get out of hand. Also, without electricity, there could be alot more stealing from houses because no ones alarms would work. It just seems like it would be way too complicated.
ReplyDeleteI think this would be really fun. i wouldnt care i love the dark and everyone needs to get away from technology someday.Others would probably flip out but i would be calm until it starts to get crouded. Alot of being might be claustrophobic and they would flip out if its dark and thers tons of people around them pushing against eachother. Its like a mosh pit but absalutly dark. oh how fun ^_^
ReplyDeleteMeow =^_^=
I think that I would adapt to the environment but it would take probably at least a week to figure is out and after a while I would remember what life used to be so I would freak out and then be all crazy. Maybe after a while I would be okay but still that is a fast change. when it became dark i would go to sleep and hope that i stay safe.
ReplyDeleteThis would be a huge shock. At first, it might be ok, but later when we realize we can't talk or use technology things would be chaos. A lot of people don't know how to live without electricity and our society is based on technology. People in places like Africa live like that every day, but it would be a harsh change to people living in more developed places. I personally wouldn't be able to survive long with out these things. I have a hard enough time going camping for two weeks. It would be scary at night with no lights. You would have to use candles. I think this might be fun for a little while. People have lived in the past before without all of these things so I think we would be able to survive. But many people would find this difficult. We are so used to being able to communicate with friends and do simple taks, but now it would be hard.
ReplyDeletei dont really know. i think personally that i would freak out. i live in the county so i would have absolutly no way of contact with people in the city. after about i say one month people would start to go psychotic. they wouldnt know when things were going on or how to get there and they would just go crazy.
ReplyDeleteI think that for the first couple days or so everything would be fine because everyone would be able to manage fine. But, after a while, I think that people would start freaking out from not being able to communicate with people. And if you are someone who lives out in the country or far away from town then you would basically be secluded from the rest of the world and that would be really hard to deal with. It sounds like it would be like a horrible situation but actually I think it would be kind of interesting to see what it would be like to live without electricity and actually have to work for food and resources. It would be fine for a couple of days but I'm not sure how long I could deal with it.

Well I think people would start to go crazy after awhile because there would be nothing to do or no way to communicate. In todays society we are normally use to sitting on the computer, texting, or playing video games after work or school. I feel like I would be just okay for a little bit, about a week or two, but then start to really need them back. Using a computer in school is so common, you will need it for all projects and homework. Having a car is very important considering my family doesnt live close to town and it would take a long time just to get to town without a car. It would be very difficult to adapt to this life style.
ReplyDeleteI think that if we didn't have technology, people would get a long pretty well at first. But over time, I think that people would eventually get sick of not having anything and would become more violent. The need to go places would increase and would probly cause more crimes and violence in the city. To communicate, you could send letters by walking to their house. To go places, you would have to ride your bike, scooter, or walk. I also think that the production of food would decrease because we couldn't use machines and that people would fight over food or try to steal it. Families would have to be more protective for their kids and houses. I think it would kind of be a good thing to happen but over time it would turn into a bad thing.
ReplyDeleteWith no electronic items working, I think the world would be a little chaotic. It would take me a while to get used to it, but over time I think I would find it kind of neat in its own way too. People could be a little creative with how they use things to see in the dark, or ways to talk to others. Maybe we could use oil lamps like the olden days, and perhaps train birds to send messages to friend, or personally send messages ourselves. Without electricity it could make everyone crazy. But I think that with a little bit of time, and some pretty whacky inventions, people could over come this electronic crisis. - Barbara Xiong
ReplyDeleteFirst off, there would be chaos at first but we cannot underestimate the power of human survival. Hopefully, leaders would be established and small communities would form. The population would need to decrease in order stop prevent famine. Resources would be evenly distributed. Many people in hospitals would die and people with disorders like diabetes will be in trouble since they can't check their blood sugar. Communication would be cut off and ideas and information couldn't be sent and received to see if other areas have this problem. In the end, society will go on but much different none the less.

First I don't think that we would be going to school for a while. Some people would group together and help each other. Not as bright people with criminal records would find it easier to raise havok. Many more people would go to stealing just because there work had all those technologies. People who try to have a positive look on the situation would probably be overpowered.-Tom Malone
ReplyDeleteIf the world lost electricity, it would have dire consequences. We have relied on electricity and technology for so long I'm not sure that most of the population could live without it. For the first day or first few days, I think if we lost electricity people would be fine. It would be a huge inconvience and it would be confusing and frustrating, but we would live through it. However, after that I think that everyone would automatically go into survival mode. People would rob each other and grocery stores and things would be chaotic. Eventually, the people who survived through the whole mess would learn to live like our ancestors did: we would grow food from the land and we would adapt to our new surroundings and to our new world.
ReplyDeleteThis reminds me about Gone series. A bunch of kids get stuck in a small city and they are without food sources, electricity, and direction from experienced people without anyway out. The book would resemble our world without electricity.
I think that alot of people will freak out. There would be no lights, so when it gets dark outside i think that poeple will get scared. They would have to light candles and sit next to fires, to keep warm. I think that people would have to save there food and use it wisley. They could trade with other people to get different supplies. If they had any food in the frigerater or freezer, well they would have to eat it before it spoils. -Brianna Sipel-
ReplyDeleteIn my perspective I think the majority of our society would break down within a month because so many rely on technology. I would be able to last longer than that most likely because I do not rely on technology as much as most people. I would eventually go crazy due to so many other people going crazy and murdering others. When darkness fell I would be afraid of someone breaking into our house and trying to kill us but other than that it would not be much different because we have candles. Others would eventually go crazy and probably start to kill of others or kill themselves because they couldn’t hold the stress.

This would be a very big inconvience for me. I live 14 miles away from school, so I would have a hard time getting where i need to go. It would be fun and an adventure at first, but then when everyone starts to run out of food, or a plague breaks out, there could be a large amount of people seriously injured. Many people would become more reliant on their neighbors and friends to help them out. People who are self-relaint such as farmers and Amish people would probably be the best off in this circumstance, because they have the means to provide for themselves without electricity.
ReplyDeleteIf this actually happened there would be dire consequences.
THis reminds me about the Gone series. In these books their entire town is encased in a certain area, without any way out. All people over 15 just disappear. The children soon run out of food, and get scared. Without adults to run the powr plant, the also are without electricity. They rely on the older kids who have more leadership skills to lead them. Their epedimic seperates the weak from the strong.
It would be interesting if that would happen. A good thing about it would be that people rely on electronics too much, and they should learn how to survive without them. It would be interesting and hard because we are all so use to having everything at our finger tips. I have always wondered what it would be like to live in the past before electricity.I think we could eventually adjust to it. Lindsey
ReplyDeleteI think that i would adapt to it sooner or later. If there was no electricity left I we would have to run on farming. It would be like way bck when. If I had no phone to talk to someone I would write them a letter and then they could write back. When it got dark out I would just sit there and twittle my thumbs and then when I got tired I would go to sleep. If there was no power I would have to wash my clothes in the lake and get some lake water and build a fire and boil the water so it would be clean to use. I would also have to bath in the lake because there is no power. I would find ways to do things.

I think nature will come back and take its place because the humans overtook things in the first place. Since we'll get no use of anything I think eventually the humans will go extinct because look at us, we have such slow reaction compared to other animals! We only use our ears, eyes, and hands to notice something.
ReplyDeleteProbably some people will go all physco on you because They've Lost Their Minds!~
There will be lots of suicide and lots of people praying. There will be lots of fist fighting and stealing but since humans are so slow at noticing things it will be too late because they will notice in the end that all you gata' do is Care For Each Other.
A movie I've watched is called Mist.
It's not really about the electronics not working, and everything is dead. basically it's about a group of lots of people in a store and there's no one out there to help in the mist.
